Happy Half Birthday America!

On January 4, 2011, we celebrated our countries 234 1/2 birthday. We learned about the Fouth of July as well as our country's flag. We had cupcakes in honor of our country's half birthday and learned the song, "God Bless America". We also read a book about Betsy Ross sewing the first ever American flag at General Washington's request. A lot of people though don't think that she really did sew the first flag. We talked about that as a class and everyone in the class thinks that she really did sew the first flag. Their reasoning is:
There were lots of people there with her when she sewed the first flag.
She was really good at sewing.
She kept her shop going somehow after her husband died.
If she didn't sew it, the who did? Why did no oe else come forward and claim that they did it?
It was fun celebrating our country's birthday!
